Rafters Welcome Pair of Highly Touted Lobo Freshmen

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are pleased to announce the signing of two players from the University of New Mexico. Outfielder Kirby McGuire and right-handed pitcher Jacob Atchley have both signed contracts to join the Rafters for the 2014 season.

OF-Kirby McGuire, 5’11”, 170lbs (R/R) Freshman
McGuire is off to a solid start in his freshman campaign for the 4-3-1 Lobos. He has played in four games so far, starting three and compiling a .273 batting average. McGuire displayed tremendous athleticism during his prep career, earning First-Team All-District for baseball in 2012 and 2013, while also bringing home First Team All-District honors in football in 2012. McGuire also showed he was no slouch in the classroom after being names a United States Army Reserve National Scholar-Athlete award winner. The native of Round Rock, TX intends to major in exercise science.

RHP-Jacob Atchley, 5’10”, 170 lbs (R/R) Freshman
Atchley joins McGuire at New Mexico this year for his Freshman season. Like McGuire, Atchley showed excellent athleticism earning All-District Honors in both football and baseball his junior and senior years. He was named to the North Texas High School Baseball Coaches All-Star game as a senior. Atchley also excelled in the classroom as a four-time Academic All-District winner. He is a native of Frisco, TX.
