Righty was recently named Big South Pitcher of the Week

Waterloo, Iowa – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that right-handed pitcher Aaron Myers has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2014 season.  Myers, a junior at Longwood University, is the 20th player to be named to the Bucks’ roster for the team’s 20th season.

On March 10, the Big South Conference announced Myers as The Crons Brand Big South Pitcher of the Week for games played March 3-9.  The 6’3”, 230-pounder threw a complete game shutout win over Ohio, earning the 1-0 win on March 8.  Myers allowed just four singles and struck out six.  The righty currently owns a 3-0 record with a 1.69 ERA in four starts for the Lancers this spring.  Myers has 31 strikeouts in 32 innings and is holding opponents to a .220 average.

“Aaron is a guy that will be 89-91 with his fastball and has plus off-speed pitches which should result in a successful season with us this summer,” said Bucks field manager Travis Kiewiet.  “He put up quality numbers last summer in the Coastal Plain League and is a guy that can help himself out with the strikeout.  I look for Aaron to be able to get inside on hitters and be very effective against wood bats here in the Northwoods League.”

Last season for Longwood, Myers made 23 appearances, starting five and notching two complete games.  The Newport News, Virginia native finished the year with a 4-2 record, a team-best 3.30 ERA, and 67 strikeouts to go along with 10 saves.  Myers threw 79 innings and held opponents to a .254 average.  For his efforts, Myers was named a Virginia Sports Information Directors University Division All-State second teamer.

Born September 2, 1993, Myers played at Denbigh High School where he went 5-4 with a 1.98 ERA as a senior.  Myers was a two-time All-District and three-time team MVP.  Aaron is the son of David and Candice Myers.

The Bucks will open the 2014 season on the road versus the Rochester Honkers on May 27, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus Rochester on May 28.  Season tickets and group outings are currently on sale.  For more information, call the Bucks’ Ticket Line at (319) 232-5633.  Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
