Martin is Bullfrogs All-Time Home Run Leader
Green Bay, Wis. –The Green Bay Bullfrogs are pleased to announce the re-signing of IF Johnathan “Tripp” Martin (Samford University) and RHP Luke Watson (UW-Stevens Point) for the 2014 season.
INF – Jonathan “Tripp” Martin, 6’1”, 214 lbs (R/R), Redshirt Junior
Martin is back for more as he dons the Green Bay colors once again after posting a .220/.293/.398 (AVG/OBP/SLG) line a year ago for the Bullfrogs. The ironman played in 62 games and led the team in home runs (11) and was second in RBIs (34). After sitting out a year due to his transfer from Coastal Carolina, Martin is picking up right where he left off and leads his new team, Samford University, in home runs (5) through 20 games played/started this spring. An infielder with some serious pop is a rare commodity and Martin has been all that and more. He’s already put up three 4-RBI games that included a gem against Louisville where he hit 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored. The Pelham, Ala. native batted .216 with seven doubles, three home runs, and nine RBI in his last season with Coastal Carolina (2012). The former Alabama first-team All-State selection is majoring in business finance.
RHP – Luke Watson, 6’0”, 175 lbs (R/R), Sophomore
The UW-Stevens Point reliever will bring his talents back to Green Bay after a successful stint in 2013. As a Bullfrog, Watson put up some solid digits in tossing 24.1 innings over 15 games, finishing second on the team in ERA (2.58), and striking out 20 hitters while walking eight. His transition into a starting role has gone off without a hitch after fanning 11 William Paterson batters in a dominant victory to start off his 2014 Pointer campaign. Watson earned the win after lasting six innings and surrendering just three hits, two earned runs, and one walk. Success was nothing new as he posted a mere 1.61 ERA and earned six saves to go along with a 2-0 record in 28.0 innings of relief in 2013. He proudly played a part in two of the Pointers’ College World Series games tallying one save and allowing zero earned runs in five total innings. The former Carthage College transfer and Appleton, Wis. native is majoring in finance.
The Bullfrogs take on the Battle Creek Bombers on Tuesday, May 27th at 7:05pm for the 2014 season opener. Single game tickets will go on-sale on Saturday, April 26th at 9:00am. Group tickets and season tickets are on sale NOW!
