Vieitez leads Bears in hitting
Green Bay, Wis. –The Green Bay Bullfrogs are pleased to announce the signing of two players from Lenoir-Rhyne University located in Hickory, North Carolina. Junior Ivan Vieitez (OF/RHP) and sophomore Matthew De La Rosa (INF/RHP) will join the Bullfrogs for the summer 2014 season.
OF/RHP – Ivan Vieitez, 6’1”, 170 lbs (R/R), Junior
Vieitez has had a stellar junior season for the Bears, starting all forty games, while leading the team in nearly every offensive statistical category. In 134 at-bats this season, Vieitez has a team-leading .440 batting average, with 59 hits, 13 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 34 RBI. Along with a team-high slugging percentage, .649, and on-base percentage, .524, Vieitez leads the Bears with seven stolen bases and a .978 fielding percentage. Combined with his abilities at the plate, Vieitez has led the Bears on the mound as well, making him a formidable dual-threat talent. In nine appearances on the hill, seven of those being starts, Vieitez owns a 4-5 record with a 3.19 ERA. He has three complete games. Opposing batters are hitting just .251 against the right-hander who is originally from Miami, Fla.
INF/RHP – Matthew De La Rosa, 6’2”, 195 lbs (R/R), Sophomore
The Bullfrogs will welcome another dual-threat player from Lenoir-Rhyne in infielder/right-handed pitcher, Matthew De La Rosa. De La Rosa currently leads the Bears in games played with 45, and has started in every game this season. In 153 at-bats this season, De La Rosa has a .216 batting average with 33 hits, 15 runs scored, 18 RBI, and is second on the team in walks with 14. He owns a .288 slugging percentage and on-base percentage as well. The Austin, Tex. native, who transferred to Lenoir-Rhyne from Cisco College, has made just one appearance on the mound this season, throwing 1/3 of an inning.
