Rosa, Barr Set to Join Mallards this Summer
Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of freshman shortstop Andrew Rosa from Oklahoma State University and sophomore catcher Austin Barr from Stanford University.
Rosa, a 6’1”, 177-pound freshman from Owasso, Oklahoma will join the Mallards after his first season with the Cowboys. So far, in 2014 he is hitting .235 with one home run and six RBIs. He has appeared in 19 games, with nine starts.
Rosa starred at Owasso High School and led his team to a Class 6A State Title his senior year. He finished with 23 home runs in his career and was named to the All-West Region First Team by Perfect Game in 2013. He was a 2012 Perfect Game Underclassmen All-American third team selection following his junior season. That season he hit .412 with seven home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Following graduation, Rosa was drafted in the 30th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox.
Barr, a 6’2”, 220-pound sophomore from Camas, Washington will come to Madison after completing his second season with the Cardinal. So far this season Barr has played in 16 games, including six starts, and has one home run and three RBIs. He played sparingly as a freshman and compiled a .217 batting average while appearing in 14 games.
Barr was drafted in the 29th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets. He starred at Camas High School where he was a three time all-state selection, four time all-league selection, and two time all-region pick. He led his team to a pair of league, district, and regional titles. He holds his high school records in at bats (623), hits (104), RBIs (87), and home runs (18). He graduated high school with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
