Boyd is First Position Player to Sign with Bucks
Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that infielder Taylor Boyd has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2015 season. Boyd, a sophomore at St. Joseph’s University, is the second player to be named to the Bucks’ roster for the team’s 21st season.
Last season as a freshman for the Hawks, Boyd played in 47 games, hitting .247 with 21 RBI. The 5’8”, 155-pounder stole eight bases and finished with a .339 on-base percentage. Boyd was named the team’s Rookie of the Year, playing primarily at shortstop.
"I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to play for the Waterloo Bucks this upcoming summer,” said Boyd. “I have heard great things about the Northwoods League and I am looking forward to a great season."
Last summer, Boyd played for the Herndon Braves of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League where he led the league in stolen bases with 26 thefts. A native of Springfield, Virginia, Boyd hit .273 with 13 RBI in 40 games.
“Taylor is a really smart kid who has a grounded personality and is all business on the baseball field,” said Waterloo general manager Dan Corbin. “He has great makeup and is a steady player. We expect to see him play both shortstop and second base for us this summer.”
Born March 20, 1995, Boyd attended West Springfield High School where he earned first team All-District honors as a senior. Taylor is the son of Terrell and Stacey Boyd.
The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.
