Gregory, Caspersen, Bedford and Charpie Return to Rox

 

St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox announced today that four players have signed to return for the 2015 season.  The list includes two time Northwoods League All-Star Reese Gregory, Ausitin Caspersen, Liam Bedford and Trevor Charpie.

Gregory, a St. Cloud native is currently a junior at St. Cloud State University.  He returns to the Rox having represented St. Cloud as a North Division All-Star during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.  Last summer Gregory was at or near the top of the Northwoods League in numerous pitching statistical categories with a 1.69 earned run average (1st in NWL), 71 strikeouts (1st in NWL), and seven wins (2nd in NWL) in 69 innings pitched (5th in NWL). 

Caspersen is a junior right handed pitcher out of Doane College (NE).  Last season with the Rox he threw 58.1 innings which was second on the team only behind Gregory.  Caspersen finished with a 5-4 record and a 3.08 ERA which was seventh best in the Northwoods League. 

Bedford, a junior catcher and utility player from Doane College (NE) returns after playing 35 games for the Rox in 2014. Bedford can play any position on the field.  He started games at second, third and catcher during the 2014 season. Beford only had four errors in 35 games.  The Melbourne, Australia native hit .254 with seven doubles and a home run last season with St. Cloud.  Prior to playing at Doane College he represented Australia on their U-17 and U-19 national teams. 

Charpie, a sophomore right handed pitcher, recently transferred to Saddleback Community College (CA) after starting his college career with the University of Tennessee.  Last season with the Rox he saw action in 19 games, finishing with a 4-1 record.  Over 42 innings pitched he struck out 47 batters.

“We bring back three pitchers from last season who were among the best pitchers in the Northwoods League and a utility player who can play anywhere on the field.  This is a great group to start with when building the roster”, said Rox Vice President Scott Schreiner.

The Rox home opener is Saturday, May 30th at Joe Faber Field as the Rox take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 7:05p.m.  There will be a post-game fireworks show presented by Coborn’s.
