Bucks Bring Hawkeye Southpaw into Rotation

Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that left-handed pitcher Ryan Erickson has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2015 season.  Erickson, a sophomore at the University of Iowa, is the ninth player to be named to the Bucks’ roster for the team’s 21st season.

Erickson transferred to Iowa from Johnson County Community College where he posted a 3.82 ERA in 2013.  The 6’3”, 190-pounder appeared in nine games, striking out 16 in 9.2 innings pitched.

“Ryan was highly recruited out of high school but decided to take a year off from baseball last year,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin.  “He’s back on the mound and challenging for a spot in the Hawkeyes rotation.  We excited to have an Iowa native on our roster this summer and expect him to contribute as a starter for us.”

Born August 27, 1993, Erickson is a native of Mason City, Iowa.  Erickson played prep ball at Mason City High School where he was a first team All-CIML selection as a senior, going 4-4 with a 1.91 ERA and 57 strikeouts.  The southpaw was named to the Perfect Game Top 100 national rankings and was named the team MVP, team Cy Young winner, and team Silver Bat honoree.  Ryan is the son of Robert and Toni Erickson.

The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.  Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
