Righty Joins Minnesota Teammate Tim Shannon on Waterloo Roster

Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that right-handed pitcher Joe Martinson has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2015 season.  Martinson, a redshirt freshman at the University of Minnesota, is the tenth player to be named to the Bucks’ roster for the team’s 21st season.

Martinson redshirted during the 2014 season for the Golden Gophers.  The 6’2”, 200-pounder is expected to be a big contributor for Minnesota this year as they begin their season on Friday, playing a three-game weekend series against the Houston Cougars in Houston, Texas.

“Joe comes to us highly recommended by former Waterloo coach and current Gophers assistant coach Patrick Casey,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin.  “He’ll join his Minnesota teammate Tim Shannon on our roster this summer and we expect Joe to compete for a spot in our starting rotation.”

Born October 14, 1994, Martinson is a native of Excelsior, Minnesota.  Martinson played prep ball at Minnetonka High School where he was an All-State and All-Lake Conference selection during his senior season.  Joe is the son of Brett Martinson and Lynn Walker.

The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.  Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
