Three Gophers Added to Rox Roster
St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox announced today the signing of three more players from the University of Minnesota for the 2015 season. The list includes pitchers Lucas Gilbreath and Brian Glowicki along with infielder Toby Hanson, who will all join Gophers teammate Austin Athmann on the Rox this summer.
Gilbreath is a 6’1” left-handed pitcher currently in his freshman season with the Gophers. Originally from Westminster, Colorado, he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 36th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. In his senior season at Legacy High School last year he posted a 6-2 record with a 1.45 ERA. Gilbreath lead Colorado high school pitchers in strikeouts both as a junior (93) and a senior (114). This season with the University of Minnesota he has appeared in two games, throwing three innings, striking out three batters.
Glowicki, a 5’11” right-handed pitcher is currently in his sophomore season. Originally from Downers Grove, Illinois, he posted a 16-3 high school record with 151 strikeouts and only 14 walks during his junior and senior seasons. In 11 appearances last season with the Gophers he maintained a 3.47 ERA over 23.1 innings pitched earning three saves. In three appearances this season for the University of Minnesota, Glowicki has pitched 7.2 innings, striking out six batters with only one walk while earning one save.
Hanson is a 6’2” left-handed hitting freshman infielder. Last season at Delano High School he was named the 2014 Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A Player of the Year. He was also named a second-team high school All-American following his senior season when he had a .457 batting average with 13 homeruns and 31 RBI. In nine games with the Gophers this season, Hanson has a .320 batting average and .433 on-base percentage.
Gilbreath, Glowicki, Hanson and Athmann will be in uniform tonight as the University of Minnesota plays an exhibition game against the Minnesota Twins at 6:05 pm. The game will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports North Plus in the St. Cloud area.
Field Manager Augie Rodriguez, as well as the Rox organization will continue to build the roster for the 2015 season
The Rox home opener is Saturday, May 30th at Joe Faber Field as the Rox take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 7:05p.m. There will be a post-game fireworks show presented by Coborn’s.
