(Rochester, Minn.)- The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Matt Walker from University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA).
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound freshman from Fresno, Calif. is one of 17 pitchers on the stacked UCLA squad that is currently 11-1 and ranked #6 nationally. 11 pitchers have only seen action this year for the Bruins, four of which have gotten all 12 starts combined.
Walker graduated from Clovis North High School in Fresno, Calif., where he finished his senior season 7-3 with a 1.82 ERA while hitting .341. He was a 2014 All-Tri River Athletic Conference first team selection and 2014 Fresno Bee first team All-Valley Selection. As a junior, Walker led his team to the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section Division I Championship.
In the summer of 2014, Walker played for the Walla Walla Sweets, of the West Coast Summer Collegiate League. He finished the summer 1-1, with seven strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched.
The UCLA Bruins host #1 Vanderbilt Friday and then welcome #7 TCU on Saturday.
