Freshman infield standout, Jack Strunc, and top Big East hurler, Tommy Strunc to play in Green Bay
Green Bay, Wis.- Jack Strunc, a highly recruited freshman from Washington State University, will join his brother, a junior at Creighton University, as the first non-returnees to be announced to the Bullfrogs roster. Both hail from Highlands Ranch, Colorado and attended the renowned Mountain Vista High School.
Jack Strunc is a 6’0” 175lb first-year shortstop playing for Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut. Strunc was a three-year letter winner in high school hitting .463 in 25 games his senior season. In all three of his seasons as a member of the varsity team he was an All-Continental Selection. In college, the Cougars have opened their season, and Strunc has already earned the role as starting shortstop. He possesses a gifted line drive swing with top rate defensive skills. In the first 12 contests of 2015, Strunc is batting .270, leading the Cougars with 11 runs scored and 14 total bases.
“I’ve heard [the Northwoods League] is really competitive,” said Jack. “It’s a lot of baseball and you get a lot of reps and receive opportunities to play different teams with players from all around the country. I’m excited.”
Creighton’s baseball program, manned by 11-year Head Coach Ed Servais, is home to junior pitcher Tommy Strunc. A 6’0”right-hander, Strunc throws a fastball, slider, and changeup. In 2013, as a red-shirt freshman, Strunc led Creighton in wins (7), innings tossed (71.2), and was an All-Missouri Valley Conference Honorable Mention. He was subsequently tabbed the 2014 Big East Preseason Pitcher of the Year. After an injury in 2014, he looks to help the Blue Jays as a starting arm once again this year.
“I thought it would be fun for [Jack’s] first year and my last year to be on the same team and have that summer ball experience together,” said Tommy. “The atmosphere of the Northwoods League is why you go out there. It’s great baseball and competition between teams.”
The Bullfrogs will open up the 2015 season at home on May 26th against the La Crosse Loggers. Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
