Wausau, WIS- The Woodchucks announce today the addition of a new player to the 2015 roster in shortstop Lane Richards from Notre Dame. Richards is having a great year hitting .342, after playing only 36 games last year due to elbow surgery.

Richards a 6’0 shortstop from Pendleton, Oregon is a junior at Notre Dame. Richards has been playing exceptional ball this year, starting all 11 games and hitting .342 with 7 RBIs. Richards found success in both his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Fighting Irish. He played in 36 games, hitting .254 his sophomore year and played in 58 games during his freshman campaign becoming one of only two players to start every game in the field.

Woodchucks GM Ryan Treu said, “Lane is a junior shortstop with an outstanding arm, we are excited to bring an older shortstop who will understand how to play the game every day for us”

In high school Richards helped his team to three league championships and was named to both the ESPN all-state baseball team and the Perfect Game West Region All-American Team as a senior.  Richards was on the high honor roll and was named the valedictorian of his graduating class.

The WISCONSIN WOODCHUCKS Home Opener is Friday, May 29tth in the newly renovated Athletic Park with Post Game Fireworks presented by Ministry Health Care. Single game ticket will go on sale in April for the 2015 season.
