Stemper Joins Fellow Gophers Alex Boxwell, Joe Martinson, and Tim Shannon in Waterloo
Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that catcher/outfielder Matt Stemper has signed to play with the team for the 2015 season. Stemper, a sophomore from the University of Minnesota, is the 24th player to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the squad’s 21st season.
Last season for the Golden Gophers, Stemper hit .297 in 37 at bats. The 6’0”, 180-pounder finished with a .333 on base percentage and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team.
“Matt’s presence on the roster gives us a quality bat and the flexibility to use him as an outfielder or a catcher,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin. “He comes to us suggested by former Bucks coach and current Minnesota assistant Patrick Casey.”
This season for the Gophers, Stemper is hitting .257 in 16 games. A native of Burnsville, Minnesota, Stemper has two home runs, five RBI, and a .486 slugging percentage.
Born October 14, 1993, Stemper attended Burnsville High School where he was named to the first team All-State and All-Conference squads. Matt is the son of Bob and Deb Stemper.
The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.
