MoonDogs Add to Infield

Mankato, Minn. – The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, of the Northwoods League, is excited to announce the addition of Trevor DeMerritt and return of 2014 MoonDog Boomer Synek, to the 2015 Roster.

Boomer Synek is a 5’9, 185 pound Redshirt Junior out of the University of Evansville. The Northbrook, Illinois native returns to the MoonDogs after receiving a medical redshirt for an injury he suffered during this season. Last summer with the MoonDogs he hit .262 in 68 games while driving in 21, two home runs and stealing 16 bases.

"Synek was off to a great start to his senior year at Evansville before an unfortunate injury caused him to have to medical redshirt this season," said Field Manager Ryan Day. "Boomer is a key returner off last year’s team that made it to the Summer Collegiate World Series.”

In 2015, for the Purple Aces, prior to his injury, he appeared in 15 games, all starts, with ten RBI, one triple and five doubles, while hitting .288.

Look for Synek to help lead the team with his experience and anchor the MoonDogs infield.

“He matured a lot over last summer and we expect him to be a leader and mentor a lot of MoonDogs this season," said Day.

Trevor DeMerritt is a 5’8, 175 pound Junior infielder out of the University of Albany. The San Jose, California native is in his first year with Albany after spending two years at West Valley College. In his second season at West Valley DeMerritt hit .362 and in his Freshman season was named First Team All-Coast Golden Gate Conference as a freshman with a .303 average and nine stolen bases.

"DeMerritt is an athletic shortstop that is a gap to gap type of hitter. He has the ability to make a lot of things happen with his speed, which we are extremely excited about," said Day. "He is going to provide the MoonDogs with yet another athletic infielder that can run and do a lot of different things for the offense, whether its start an inning or drive in some runs."

In 2015 for the Great Dane’s, DeMerritt is hitting .261 in 31 games, 31 starts, with two triples, eleven RBI and seven stolen bases.

The MoonDogs home opener is scheduled for May 27th at 7:05 p.m. against the Rochester Honkers at Franklin Rogers Park. Season tickets are now on sale at the MoonDogs office located at 1221 Caledonia Street. For more information, visit our website or call the MoonDogs office at 507-625-7047.
