St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox announced the signing of five more players for the 2015 season today. The list includes University of Tennessee’s Jake Westphal, Davidson College’s Lee Miller, South Dakota State University’s Andrew Clemen, Yavapai College’s Luke Doyle and Heartland Community College’s Andrew Sykes.
Westphal is a 6’0” freshman right-handed pitcher at University of Tennessee. He has appeared in 11 games for the Volunteers in 2015 throwing 18.1 innings of relief. He currently has an earned run average of 3.93 and has struck out 13 batters. The Sioux City, Iowa native was selected to the Iowa All-State Team during his junior and senior seasons at Sioux City East High School.
Miller, a 6’2” junior at Davidson College, plays primarily in the outfield. He has started all 42 games for the Wildcats and leads the team with a .373 batting average. Miller also leads the team in hits (63), doubles (16) and runs batted in (46), while also hitting six homeruns. In high school, the Georgia native was named the Atlanta All-Area Player of the Year while at Riverwood High School.
Clemen is a 6’2” junior right-handed pitcher at South Dakota State University. He has made 18 appearances this season for the Jackrabbits while posting a 1-0 record and a 2.73 earned run average. In 33 innings of work he has 39 strikeouts while only walking eight batters. In high school, the Iowa native was selected to the Iowa All-State Team during his senior season.
Doyle, a 5’11” corner infielder is a sophomore at Yavapai College. Appearing in 56 games so far for the Roughriders this season, he has a .380 batting average. Doyle has collected 12 home runs, 48 runs batted in, 15 stolen bases and leads the team with 71 runs scored on the season. He was recently named to the All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference/National Junior College Athletic Association Region 1 1st Team.
Sykes is a 6’2” freshman left-handed pitcher at Heartland Community College. He has appeared in eight games this season for the Hawks, starting seven. He posted a 4-2 record with a 1.81 earned run average along with 55 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched. Sykes was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 35th round of the 2014 MLB Draft prior to joining Heartland Community College.
The Rox now have 27 players signed for the 2015 season. Field Manager Augie Rodriguez, as well as the Rox organization will continue to build the roster for the 2015 season.
The Rox home opener is Saturday, May 30th at Joe Faber Field as the Rox take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 7:05p.m. There will be a post-game fireworks show presented by Coborn’s.
