Ben Messenger, Tyler Kozlowski, and Matt McCarthy sign with Green Bay
Green Bay, Wis.- Two players from UW-Oshkosh, Ben Messenger and Tyler Kozlowski, along with Penn State’s Matt McCarthy, are the final players to be announced to the Bullfrogs 2015 roster. Messenger and McCarthy are both left-handed pitchers, while Kozlowski is a corner infielder.
Messenger, a 6’0” rising senior from Howard, WI, started 11 games on the hill for the Titans this spring on his way to a WIAC honorable mention selection. He finished with a 3.91 ERA with 69IP and 46K to end the latest campaign. In his final three starts, Messenger tallied 23IP, gave up just 6ER, and struck our four batters in each of the appearances. In 2014, he led the team with a 3.28 ERA. His freshman season, Messenger played for UW-Stevens Point and sported a 3.91 ERA in 53IP, the third most innings tossed on the team. A graduate of Bay Port H.S., he was a First-Team All-State pick and was awarded Fox River Classic Conference Player of the Year his senior year.
His teammate, Tyler Kozlowski, is an ascending junior infielder that plays primarily at third base. Kozlowski was also a 2015 All-WIAC honorable mention recipient. He hit .307 with 34 runs, 30RBI, and paced the WIAC with 29 walks. From April 3-21, Kozlowski compiled a 15-game hitting streak including seven multi-hit contests. In his freshman year, Kozlowski hit .345 with a .420 OBP on his way to an All-WIAC honorable mention spot. He also led the Titans with 48 hits and 12 stolen bases. A native of Menomonee Falls, WI, Kozlowski attended Sussex Hamilton H.S.
Matt McCarthy , a left-handed pitcher, plays for the Penn State Baseball Club, and will be a junior next fall. He helped the Nittany Lions win a North Atlantic Club Regional Championship on their way to the NCBA Division I World Series in Paducah, KY. McCarthy has a 1-1 record with eight appearances and one game started. In his last two outings, McCarthy totaled four innings, allowed no runs with four strikeouts. He’s a native of Wexford, PA and attended Pine Richland H.S. McCarthy is the nephew of Green Bay Packers Head Coach, Mike McCarthy.
