Mike and Matt Ellenbest to join the Bullfrogs

GREEN BAY, Wisc – Mike and Matt Ellenbest will suit up in the same colors for the first time since their prep days in Medina, Ohio. Both brothers will be in Green Bay this summer as the Bullfrogs made their signings official for the 2016 season.

"I'm excited to have both of these guys as part of our pitching staff this summer” said manager Darrell Handelsman. “Mike will be in his third year in the league and has continued to grow and mature. His experience will be invaluable to us. I look for him to be one of the leaders of our staff. Matt is a big, physical right hander, extremely competitive and experienced. He will provide us with depth at the end of games."

Matt, the elder statesmen of the duo is in his Redshirt Junior season at Morehead State while Mike will enter his Redshirt Sophomore campaign at Saginaw Valley State.

Ellenbest is making his third Northwoods League stint, all with the Bullfrogs. Last year, the right-hander appeared in two games for Green Bay, splitting his decisions. He picked up his first win May 27th, versus the LaCrosse Loggers. Mike worked 6 1/3 innings, yielding only two unearned runs while striking out four. In 2015 for Saginaw Valley State, Ellenbest started eight games, hurling two complete games and one shutout. For his numbers, Mike was honored with the GLIAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year award as well as 2nd team All-GLIAC. His collegiate campaign is continuing strong this year, as he was named the GLIAC North Pitcher of the Week last week. He threw 6 innings of one-hit baseball for the Cardinals as they swept Kentucky State. The sophomore saw his scoreless innings streak – which dates back to last year – grow to 32 consecutive innings.

Matt Ellenbest is coming off a 2015 campaign in which he was forced to miss the season due to an undisclosed injury. In 2014, Matt enjoyed a solid Redshirt Sophomore season, with 24 relief appearances, earning a 2-2 record. He struck out 19 in 37 2/3 innings. He also preserved two wins for the Eagles, both against SIU-Edwardsville, his only two saves of the season. This season, Matt has worked in two games, allowing only one hit in his action.
