BATTLE CREEK, MI – The Battle Creek Bombers announced the signing today of two juniors who will join the team this summer. Max Ritchie of Brown University and Dan Swain of Siena College are the latest roster additions for the Bombers 2016 season.
Max Ritchie: 6’8”, 220 lbs, RHP, Junior, (Bats: R/Throws: R), Woodbridge, Connecticut
In his freshman year at Brown, Ritchie appeared in 10 games, and recorded 13 strikeouts over 16 innings. In his sophomore campaign, he made seven appearances, and struck out nine batters in 17.2 innings. So far this season, he has made three appearances, and has three strikeouts in 5.2 innings for the Bears.
Ritchie attended Amity Regional High School, where he led the Spartans to consecutive Southern Connecticut Conference championships, and a state championship as a senior.
Dan Swain: 6’0”, 185 lbs, CF, Junior, (Bats: R/Throws: R), Newton, Massachusetts
Swain is returning to Battle Creek after playing in 65 games for the Bombers last summer. He lead the team in hits (84), batting average (.315), doubles (13), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.449), runs scored (49), stolen bases (13), and at bats (267). Swain was one of the Northwoods League’s top offensive producers and was selected to participate in the 2015 Major League Dreams Showcase.
In his sophomore season with Siena, Swain batted .266 with three homeruns and 17 runs batted in. Swain also went 12-for-18 in stolen base attempts. In the field, he had a .970 fielding percentage. He had three assists and had 125 putouts in the 49 games he played. He went 8-for-22 in the MAAC tournament and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Swain attended Newton North High School. In 2012, he was a Bay State Carey All-Conference selection as well as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic All-Star. The following year, he was selected to the Boston Herald Dream Team.
