Chris Botsoe and Austin Clemons Add ACC Flavor To Lineup
Green Bay, Wis.- Freshman outfielder, Chris Botsoe, joins red-shirt freshman outfielder/catcher, Austin Clemons, as the newest Bullfrogs. Both play their college baseball at the University of Louisville.
Clemons is playing in his first official college season after taking a red-shirt in 2015. On a nationally ranked Louisville team, Clemons collected his first hit and RBI of his career against Princeton, as the Cardinals won 11-0.
A native of Louisville, Clemons was a member of the state champion St. Xavier H.S. Tigers in 2014. After hitting .340 as a senior, he was named an All-State selection and ranked as the No. 9 player in the state of Kentucky by Perfect game.
“He will give us a lot of flexibility, Clemons is a versatile player,” said Bullfrogs Field Manger, Skip Handelsman. “He can play either corner [outfield] spot and catch.”
Clemons will be joined by his college teammate, Chris Botsoe, on the Bullfrogs roster. He is likely taking a red-shirt, having not seen any time yet for the Cardinals in 2016.
A 2015 graduate of Hinsdale (Ill.) Central H.S., Botsoe was ranked the second best outfielder in the state of Illinois by Perfect Game. He was a first-team All-State pick and recorded a .395 batting average as a senior with six triples.
“He is very athletic,” said Handelsman. “Botsoe is one of the top players from the Chicago area and he can play. We are excited to have him.”
Botsoe and Clemons are the second pair of Cardinal players to come play for the Bullfrogs in as many seasons. 2015 Team MVP, Logan Taylor, and starting infielder, Danny Rosenbaum, helped lead the Bullfrogs to a 2015 playoff run.
The Bullfrogs will open up the 2016 season at home on May 31st against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now.
