Group of Players Skilled in both Saving and Scoring Runs
Green Bay, Wis – The Bullfrogs have announced the signings of three players that will add to their infield depth in 2016. Jesse Berardi, Eric Solberg, and Hunter Owen will come play their summer ball in Green Bay.
Berardi is currently a sophomore shortstop at St. John’s University. He saw a lot of time as a freshman, appearing in 43 games and making 16 starts. As an everyday starter this season, Berardi is the current leader in RBIs (30) and Homeruns (5) for the Red Storm. The Commack, New York native was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 40th round of the 2014 MLB Draft but elected to attend St. John’s.
Solberg, a redshirt junior from Waukesha, Wisconsin plays shortstop for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The 6’2”, left-handed hitter sat out his first season before making a huge contributions to the Panthers in the past three. Solberg fought his way into the starting lineup by the end of his redshirt freshman year and followed up those efforts by hitting .286 the following season. Now in his junior season, Solberg has proven to be a force when it comes to manufacturing runs. His 28 walks and 13 stolen bases have led to 29 runs scored this year. Solberg attended Waukesha West High School where he was a three-time First Team All-Conference player in the Classic 8.
Hunter Owen is a versatile player for the Indiana State Sycamores. The redshirt junior will provide the Bullfrogs with flexibility in their lineup, with experience playing around the infield and in the outfield. Owen is following up a successful sophomore year with an even more impressive campaign this season. Owen is not only leading the team in a number of offensive categories but is top five in the MVC in many, as well. Carrying a .353 batting average on the season, he has knocked in 37 runs and crossed the plate to score 44 runs of his own. The Evansville, Indiana native played his high school ball at Mater Dei High School where he earned All-Conference selections his junior and senior years.
