Hokies Tom Stoffel (JR) and JD Mundy (FR) sign with Bombers
Battle Creek, Mich. – The OnStaff Group Recruiting Trail is bringing two players to the Battle Creek Bombers from Virginia Tech, left-handed pitcher/outfielder Tom Stoffel and infielder JD Mundy.
Tom Stoffel, a 5-foot-10 redshirt junior and Dayton, Ohio, native, joins the Bombers for his first season. Stoffel started in 41 games last season for the Hokies, hitting .278 with 35 RBIs, tying him for the team-lead in multi-RBI games with 11. Stoffel redshirted as a sophomore and played in 41 games his freshman season, starting 24 of them. He attended Northmont High School, where he earned varsity letters all four years while also becoming the school’s all-time hits leader with 154. Stoffel is majoring in mechanical engineering.
JD Mundy, a 6-foot freshman from Roanoke, Va., will join the Bombers for his first season. Mundy attended Northside High School and earned varsity letters all four years. He enjoyed a very successful high school career. He was named a three-time first team all-district and all-state performer and was chosen as the 2016 recipient of the Ray Bellamy Award. As a senior, he was named the Timesland baseball Player of the Year after hitting .550 for the season, which included 33 hits, 10 doubles and five home runs. Mundy is majoring in communications.
