1988 Rookie of the Year, World Series Champion and Former MLB All-Star To Manage Bullfrogs

Green Bay, Wis.- Former Major League All-Star Chris Sabo will be the new Field Manager for the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Sabo, a former MLB player, minor league and collegiate coach, and current Head Coach at the elite IMG Academy, will enter his first season managing in the Northwoods League.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to come to Green Bay,” said Sabo. “ The mission [of the Northwoods League] is to prepare these kids for professional baseball. Coming in and playing everyday and getting up and doing it all over again is important for these players to learn.”

Sabo played nine Major League Baseball seasons with four different teams, his longest stint came with the Cincinnati Reds in the late 1980s and early 90s. Sabo was a three-time All-Star, 1988 Rookie of the Year, and won a World Series with the Reds in 1990.

Sporting a wealth of coaching experience, Sabo now coaches at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida during the spring. His other previous coaching stops include professional experience with the Reds minor league affiliates, the Billings Mustangs and Dayton Dragons. He has also coached at the collegiate level serving as an assistant at the University of Cincinnati.

“I’m very familiar with professional [and college] baseball. I aim to treat this summer like a professional environment,” said Sabo. “I let the players play. I am aggressive. I like stealing bases and making the pitcher's throw strikes and I like to win."

One of the hallmarks of the Northwoods League is the rigorous schedule and competition. Sabo’s dynamic experience in myriad levels of the game should prove valuable in his first summer in the Northwoods.

“I really enjoy the game experience,” said Sabo. “Having games almost everyday is a thrill for me. I like the thrill of trying to win a game, managing, and putting the best team out there possible.”

The Bullfrogs will open their season at home Tuesday, May 30 at 6:35 p.m. against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Group tickets are on sale now and single game tickets go on sale Saturday, April 29 at 9:00 a.m. For information call the Bullfrogs Ticket Office at 920.497.7225, or email info@greenbaybullfrogs.com or stop by the ticket office at 315 S.
