St. Cloud, MNThe St. Cloud Rox announced the signing of four players for the 2017 season today.  The list includes Louisiana State University catcher Nick Coomes, University of California, Berkeley infielder Cameron Eden, McNeese State outfielder Shane Selman and Southeastern Louisiana University outfielder/pitcher Drew Avans.

Coomes is a junior catcher at Louisiana State University. He is currently in his first season with the Tigers after transferring from LSU-Eunice. Last season at LSU-Eunice he had a .359 batting average with 13 home runs, 81 runs batted in, 76 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.  He was named a Junior College All-American in 2016 and was ranked 18th among the Top 100 Junior College Prospects. Coomes has a .200 batting average and one run batted in for the Tigers in 2017.

Eden is a freshman infielder at University of California, Berkeley. Last season at Yuba City (CA) High School, he had a .429 batting average with 28 runs batted in, 14 doubles and 4 home runs.  Eden was named the Tri-County Conference Offensive League Most Valuable Player following his senior season at Yuba City High School.  Through three games this season with the Golden Bears, Eden has a .400 batting average, one run scored and one run batted in.

Selman, an outfielder at McNeese State University, is currently playing in his sophomore season. As a freshman, in 2016 he played in 50 games and collected a team-high 10 home runs for the Cowboys. Selman was also second on his team in slugging percentage (.461) and runs scored (35). Through four games this season at McNeese State he leads the team with a .538 batting average and eight runs batted in.

Avans, a junior at Southeastern Louisiana University, is a pitcher and outfielder.  In 2016 he played in 38 games for the Lions, finishing with a .274 batting average, three home runs, 19 runs batted in and 20 runs scored.  In both 2015 and 2016 Avans was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  In three games this season at Southeastern Louisiana, he has a team leading .556 batting average and three runs batted in.

In total the Rox now have 12 players under contract for the 2017 season. Field Manager Augie Rodriguez, along with the Rox organization will continue to build the roster for the 2017 season.


The Rox will play their 6th season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2017. The home opener at Joe Faber Field is scheduled for Friday, June 2nd at 7:05 pm against the Rochester Honkers. The home opener, presented by Coborn’s, will feature post-game fireworks. Season and group tickets for the 2017 season are currently on sale.
