Bewley and Richan from USD join Tuck from SDSU

La Crosse, Wis. – The La Crosse Loggers front office announced today that they have added three players from the San Diego area with the signings of Brhet Bewley and Paul Richan from the University of San Diego along with Avery Tuck from San Diego State.

Infielder Brhet Bewley is off and running in his sophomore season at USD, looking to build off a standout freshman campaign where he was named to the all-freshman West Coast Conference team after hitting .273 with 60 hits, including 10 doubles, one home run and 22 RBI’s.  The Winchester, Calif. native also hit .321 during West Coast Conference action in 2016.  Thus far in 2017, the Toreros are off to a 6-3 start and Bewley has started all nine games, hitting .265 with one home run and three RBI’s.

Joining Bewley will be teammate and fellow sophomore right-handed pitcher Paul Richan.  The 6-3, 215 pound hurler was a significant contributor to the Toreros staff as a freshman when he went 1-1 over 12 appearances, fanning 20 batters in 24.1 innings while walking only 10.  Richan then excelled over the summer of 2016 as a member of the Danville Dans of the Prospect League when we posted 6-2 record with a 3.45 ERA over 11 appearances, 10 of which were starts.  The Newhall, Calif. native struck our 42 batters in 57.1 innings of work while only issuing 12 walks. So far this spring, Richan ranks second on the team in appearances (4) and has yet to surrender a run in eight innings of work, while striking out 8 batters.

Freshman Avery Tuck will be coming to La Crosse as one of the top freshmen in all of the country.  The 6-5, 195 pound athletic outfielder was selected in the 26th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros, but elected instead to hone his skills at San Diego State.  The left-handed hitting Tuck is widely considered a top rookie in the nation as Perfect Game ranked him as the 44th best freshman entering the 2017 season.  The San Diego, Calif. native as a 2016 Perfect Game first-team all-American coming out of Steele Canyon High School.

Bewley, Richan, Tuck and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2017 campaign at home on Tuesday, May 30 when they play host to the Duluth Huskies at 7:05 p.m. at the newly renovated Copeland Park.  Season tickets and specialty ticket packages are on sale now at LaCrosseLoggers.com or by calling the Loggers ticket office at 608-796-9553.
