Bombers ink temporary freshman Bailey Peterson and Gavin Homer

Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers and the OnStaff Group are excited to announce the signing of Kellogg Community College middle infielder Bailey Peterson and McHenry County College utility man Gavin Homer to temporary contracts.

"It's very exciting for us to have two well-deserving players on our roster with close, personal ties to the city of Battle Creek,” said Tony Iovieno, general manager of the Bombers. “I'm sure our fans will be rooting extra hard for them both to succeed here in the prestigious Northwoods League."

Gavin Homer, 5’9”, 165 lbs., Utility, B/T: R/R, McHenry County College (Fr.), Battle Creek, Mich.

Homer, a Battle Creek native, is a freshman at McHenry County College. The utility man will start his season with the Scots this Saturday, as they will face Surry Community College.

Homer attended Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, where he was a two-sport athlete.  While in high school, he played for the HBF Maroons summer baseball organization and was named to the all-tournament team in the USSSA Summer International Championship.  During his time with the Maroons, they were a 3-time USSSA World Series Championship team.

"Gavin is a very athletic player that can play really anywhere on the field for us. He is primarily an infielder but might see some time in the outfield for us as well,” said Solemsaas.  “Everyone I've talked to really likes how he plays and the way he carries himself on and off the field. It will be great to have him back in Battle Creek and for him to play in front of his friends and family."

Bailey Peterson, 6’0”, 185 lbs., Middle Infielder, B/T: R/R, Kellogg Community College (Fr.), Grandville, Mich.

Peterson, a freshman at Kellogg Community College, which is located in Battle Creek, has had a nice start to his collegiate career. The Grandville, Mich., native has played in 12 games, hitting .400 with two home runs and 12 RBI.

Prior to Kellogg Community College, Peterson attended Grandville High School, where he was a three-year varsity player.

"Bailey is a high-level defender in the middle infield and is a guy that can do some things for us offensively. Coach Laskovy at KCC was one of my first calls when I got the job and felt like Peterson was a can't-miss guy for us this summer,” said Solemsaas. “I'm looking forward to seeing how he adjusts to college baseball and the improvements he can make over the course of his season.”
