Blake & Guiterrez the Latest Prospects from Texas A & M
La Crosse, Wis. – The La Crosse Loggers front office announced today that they have added a pair of players from nationally ranked Texas A & M University with the official signings of outfielder Cameron Blake and utility man Jorge Guiterrez.
Round Rock, Texas native Cameron Blake is in the midst of his freshman campaign at Texas A & M having been one of the most sought after recruits in the nation heading into college. The 6-1, 185 pound outfielder earned a spot on the USA Baseball U18 National Team Trials in 2015 and 2016 and was also named a Rawlings-Perfect Game pre-season all-American in 2014, 2015 and 2016 while at Round Rock High School. Tabbed as the 196th best freshman in the country heading into this season by Perfect Game, the left-handed hitting Blake has already experienced success on the young season for the 17th ranked Aggies as he his hitting at a .333 clip with four RBI’s after appearing in seven games thus far.
Joining Blake with be fellow freshman phenom Jorge Guiterrez, who has gotten off to a fast and powerful start to his collegiate career. The switch-hitting Guiterrez blasted two home runs in his first ever game in an Aggies uniform and is currently hitting .346 with three homers and eight RBI’s. A native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, Guiterrez’s father played professional baseball in Venezuela before the family moved to Texas where eventually Jorge became a Perfect Game all-Texas region player. Guiterrez will bring a great deal of versatility to the Loggers lineup this summer as he possess the ability to catch, as well as play multiple positions in the infield.
Blake, Guiterrez and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2017 campaign at home on Tuesday, May 30 when they play host to the Duluth Huskies at 7:05 p.m. at the newly renovated Copeland Park.
