Jake Snider and Matt McCarty will head to Madison this summer
Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards have added a pair from the top ranked Louisville Cardinals to the team’s roster for the 2017 season. Freshman infielder Jake Snider and right handed pitcher Matt McCarty will be headed to Madison after the conclusion of their season in Louisville.
Snider, a 6’0”, 185-pound freshman infielder from Champaign, IL is in his freshman season at Louisville. Snider played three seasons at Champaign Central High School before finishing his high school career at Louisville Ballard High School. He received All-Area honors in each of his three seasons in Champaign and earned All-State honors twice. In his junior year at Champaign Central he posted a .552 batting average. In his senior season at Louisville Ballard, he averaged .469 at the plate with 12 doubles and 22 RBI. In the conclusion of his 2016 season, he was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 4 senior in the state of Kentucky.
Snider has begun to make an impact for the undefeated Cardinals. He has played in 12 of the 16 games this spring and is hitting .391 with six RBI.
McCarty, a 6’4”, 200-pound freshman right handed pitcher from Oak Creek, WI will also be joining the Mallards after Louisville’s 2017 campaign. McCarty attended South Milwaukee High School and was a four-year starter and two-year captain. Over the course of his high school career McCarty posted a 17-9 record and struck out 235. During his senior season he posted 1.25 ERA in 44 of innings of work while racking up 63 strikeouts and walking just five. McCarty’s strong 2016 performance earned him All-State honors. McCarty also excelled in the classroom as he was ranked number 1 academically in his graduating class of 281 students.
McCarty has yet to appear in a game for the Cardinals.
The Mallards will open their season at home on Tuesday, May 30th at 6:35 PM against the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders. Group tickets for the 2017 season are on sale now.
