May is the 165th former Northwoods League player to debut in MLB
Rochester, Minn. – Former Green Bay Bullfrog, Jacob May, made his Major League debut for the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. May is the 165th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.
May, who played collegiately at Coastal Carolina, played for the Green Bay Bullfrogs in 2011. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 3rd round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
In 2011 with the Bullfrogs, May hit .296 with 12 doubles, 19 stolen bases and 22 runs driven in.
May started his Minor League career in 2013 with the Kannapolis Intimidators in the Lo-A South Atlantic League. After 54 games, he was sent to the Great Falls Voyagers of the Rookie Pioneer League. For the season he hit .303 with eight home runs, seven doubles, four triples and 35 runs driven in. He also stole 24 bases.
May spent the 2014 season with the Winston-Salem Dash in the Hi-A Carolina League. Over 109 games he hit .258 with 10 triples, 31 doubles and 27 runs driven in to go along with 37 stolen bases.
The 2015 season saw May spend most of the season in the AA Southern League with the Birmingham Barons. Over 98 games he hit .275 with 15 doubles, one triple and 32 RBI. He also stole 37 bases.
May was in AAA for the 2016 season with the Charlotte Knights of the International League. In 83 games, he hit .266 with two triples, 19 doubles and 19 stolen bases.
In his Major League debut against the Detroit Tigers, May started in centerfield and batted ninth in the order. May went 0-4 but did garner his first Major League RBI with a ground out in the ninth inning. Coincidentally the run was scored by former Duluth Huskie Cody Asche who was acquired by the White Sox during the off-season.
