Brother Ryan, plays for the Texas Rangers
(Rochester Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of Lake Erie Storm outfielder Rees Rua. He will play for the Honkers this season under a temporary contract. Rees is the younger brother of MLB outfielder Ryan Rua. Ryan is in his fourth season with the Texas Rangers.
Rua is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound sophomore from Amherst, Ohio. He graduated from Amherst Steele High School where he earned three letters. Rua received All-Ohio, All-County, and All-Conference honors in baseball, as well as All-District and All-County honors in basketball.
Rua is currently hitting .310 (fifth on team). In 22 starts, he has 22 hits, 14 runs, nine RBIs, and five doubles. He is second on the team with a .451 on-base percentage.
As a freshman at Lake Erie, Rua played in 36 of the Storm’s 47 games, starting 26 of them. He finished fourth on the team in batting average (.347) and second in stolen bases (five). He held a .405 on-base percentage with six doubles, a home run, and seven walks.
Last summer, Rees played in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League with Lorain County. As the Ironmen’s center fielder, he finished with a .285 batting average (fourth on team) in 39 games. He led the team in walks (19), hit-by-pitches (11), and on-base percentage (.414), was second in runs (23), and tied for third in RBIs (21).
Rua and future Honker pitcher David Lemasters take on the University of Charleston (W.V) later today at 2 pm. They start a four-game road series at Northwood University (Mich.) this weekend.
The Rochester Honkers 24th season begins on Tuesday, May 30th when the team hosts the Mankato Moondogs in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. The NEW 5-Game Packs are available now!
