Doyle, Madej and Troike Headed Back to Kenosha
Kenosha, Wis. – Three mainstays from the 2017 Kenosha Kingfish roster will return to the team for the 2018 Northwoods League season. Shortstop Ben Troike (Illinois), second baseman Mikey Madej (Purdue) and outfielder Connor Doyle (San Diego) hope to lead the Kingfish to a successful season.
“I’m happy we have some good ballplayers I’m familiar with back on the team this season.” said veteran Kingfish Manager Duffy Dyer. “All three had a good year on the field in 2017 and I’m excited to see how they do this year.”
Troike and Madej will form a Big Ten double play combination for Kenosha. Troike played in 46 games for the Kingfish last season batting .250 with 12 RBI. Madej, a switch hitter, led the team with 239 at bats in 64 games during the 2017 season. He hit .222 with 28 RBI. He ranked second on the team in home runs with 5 and 3rd in hits with 53. Both excellent base runners, Madej and Troike finished second and third on the team with 14 and 13 steals respectively.
“It’s always nice to have some familiarity with each other in the middle infield. We’ll be counting on these two to help us solidify our defense this season.” Dyer added.
Doyle, a right-handed junior outfielder, played in 62 games with the Kingfish last season. He hit .253 with three home runs and 26 RBI. A true speedster, Doyle led the team with 21 steals and 46 runs scored in 2017. He was second on the team with 60 hits.
“We know Connor is going to cover a ton of ground for us in the outfield and create some havoc for opponents on the base paths” said Dyer. “I know we’ll get consistent hustle from him every day.”
Opening Day for the Kingfish is Tuesday, May 29th against the 2017 South Division Champion Battle Creek Bombers. The game begins at 6:35 PM at Historic Simmons Field. “We’re so excited for the season to start.” said General Manager Scott Preimesberger. “We think by having these three players return, it sets us up for a potential repeat of the 2015 Championship season.”
