Will Frizzell and Ty Duvall will be making their Northwoods League debuts in 2018
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.-Today the Rafters announced the signing of infielder Will Frizzell and catcher Ty Duvall. Will Frizzell is a starting freshman infielder for Texas A&M and will be joined by Vanderbilt sophomore catcher, Ty Duvall.
“Craig and I are really excited about adding two players from top-notch programs to the lineup,” said Rafters GM John Fanta. “Both are younger players but have a lot of upside and we look forward to having them take a big step forward in their development this summer.”
Will Frizzell will bring some energy and offensive power this season for the Rafters. His left-handed bat is off to a nice start in his collegiate career with Texas A&M, posting a .300 batting average through his first three games for the 3-0 Aggies. Frizell has seen time at both designated hitter and right field in his first few games this spring but projects to play first base for the Rafters this summer. The 6-foot-5 Rockwall, Texas native batted .417 with a .542 on-base percentage, six home runs and 51 RBI in 2017 as a senior third baseman for Rockwall High School. His 51 runs batted in and .542 on-base percentage both set school records.
Frizzell will be joined on the 2018 Rafters by catcher Ty Duvall. Duvall is beginning his sophomore season with Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Duvall hit .375, netted six RBI, and posted a .516 on-base percentage in 17 games behind the dish for the Commodores last season. The Lebanon, Ohio born Duvall is no stranger to summer collegiate baseball as he spent last summer with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Duvall hit .290 and blasted five home runs to go with 12 RBI in 31 games for the Gulls in 2017.
Frizzell, Duvall and the rest of the 2018 Wisconsin Rapids Rafters will begin their season on the road against the Madison Mallards on Tuesday, May 29th. The Home Opener is slated for Friday, June 1st against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The entire 2018 Rafters schedule is available at www.raftersbaseball.com.
