Six Members of the Big Ten Will Join This Year’s Squad

FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders have announced their first additions to the 2018 roster.  Six members of the Big Ten conference will be joining the team this summer including Mike Addante (Nebraska), Mitch Boe (Iowa), Patrick Fredrickson (Minnesota), Bubba Horton (Minnesota), Jack Wassel (Minnesota), & Alex Erro (Northwestern).

Addante, a 5’9” freshman outfielder, will play his first season for Nebraska this spring.  Addante is a native of Algonquin, IL, and played high school baseball at Harry D. Jacobs under Coach Robert “Jamie” Murray.  He helped the Golden Eagles to a third-place state finish in 2014 and captured regional titles in 2015 and 2016.  He batted .341 with a .581 slugging percentage and was also selected to the 2015 and 2016 Perfect Game WWBA National Championship All-Tournament Teams.

Boe, a 5’9 junior infielder, is entering his third season playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Last season, Boe started 59 games, all at second base, and hit .244 with 29 runs, 26 RBIs, and 23 walks.  He reached safely in a career-best 14 games from Feb. 19-March 17.  Boe is from Naperville, IL.

Fredrickson, a 6’6” freshman pitcher, will play his first season for Minnesota this spring.   Fredrickson is a 2017 graduate of Gig Harbor High School (WA) and started three seasons as a right-handed pitcher for coach Peter Jansen and Gig Harbor.  He was ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in Washington and No. 175 nationally by Perfect Game.

Horton, a 6’2” freshman pitcher, will also play his first season for the Gophers this spring.  Horton is a 2017 graduate of Maple Grove Senior High School (MN) and started four seasons as a pitcher and first baseman for coach Darby Carlson at Maple Grove. He was ranked as the No. 1 left-handed pitching prospect in Minnesota and no. 82 nationally by Perfect Game.

Wassel, freshman infielder, will take the field for Minnesota for the first time this spring after being redshirted in 2017.  Wassel graduated from Geneva High School (IL) in 2016 and earned four letters in baseball.  He played briefly for the Rockford Rivets in the Northwoods League during the last two summers.

Erro, a switch-hitting sophomore infielder, is entering his second season with the Northwestern Wildcats.  Last season, he tallied a 17-game hitting streak, longest for a Northwestern player since 2008, and struck out only 18 times in 233 at-bats (K/12.9 AB), which placed him 38th in the country in the toughest to strikeout category.  He also Earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Feb. 27 after hitting .700 with a 1.1000 slugging percentage at the Mule Mix Classic.
