Illinois and Indiana Represented on 2019 Roster
Kenosha, Wis. – The Kingfish are pleased to announce the signing of three Big Ten players to the 2019 roster. Pitcher Caleb Larson and outfielder Sam Crail will join the Kingfish as full-time players while pitcher Gabe Bierman joins the team as a temp.
Larson joins the Kingfish from the University of Illinois. The 6’3” 180-pound freshman right-handed pitcher hails from Wheaton, IL. He was a two-time all-conference selection for the Wheaton-Warrenville South Tigers and named the No. 27 recruit in Illinois by Prep Baseball Report. He is ranked No. 25 on the list of impact freshman in the Big Ten by D1Baseball.com for the 2019 college baseball season.
Crail is a 5’10” 192-pound left-handed hitting sophomore outfielder from the Indiana University. Originally from Sheridan, IN, he appeared in 29 total games during his freshman year for the Hoosiers, primarily as a pinch-hitter. In high school, Crail was a .547 career hitter with a .617 OBP and was ranked the No. 18 player out of Indiana by Prep Baseball Report.
Joining college teammate Sam Crail on the Kingfish roster, Bierman is a 6’2” 170-pound right-handed freshman pitcher. He broke the single-season high school strikeout record at Jeffersonville High School and tied the record for the most strikeouts in one game with 15.
“Illinois and Indiana have two of the top programs in the Big Ten and we’re excited to be able to add players from those teams,” said Head Coach Duffy Dyer. “Crail brings consistent production on offense while Larson shores up our rotation and will throw some very important innings for us. Fans should be excited about what’s to come for these guys.”
Opening Day for the Kingfish is May 28th against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The game begins at 6:35 PM at Historic Simmons field. 2019 marks the sixth season of Kingfish Baseball in Kenosha.
