Wausau, WI – The Wisconsin Woodchucks are excited to announce the addition of four Florida International University Players to the 2019 roster. Jose Varela, Everett Hurst, Angel Tiburcio and Kaeber Rog will be joining the Woodchucks this summer.

Jose Varela, a 6’1”, 185 lb. sophomore, grew up in Miami, Florida. He played at St. Johns River State College prior to joining the Florida International University Panthers. At St. Johns River State, Varela batted .340 with four home runs and 27 RBIs. So far with the Panthers, he has a .375 batting average and has pitched two innings in relief. Varela will be joining the Woodchucks pitching rotation.

Everett Hurst, a 5’9”, 157 lb. sophomore  from Sebring, Florida, will be returning to the Woodchucks for his second season. Last season with the ‘Chucks, Hurst had a 4.50 ERA in 32 innings pitched. He recorded 23 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched for the Panthers in 2018. Prior to FIU, Hurst played at Sebring High School where he was the 2015 team MVP and Highland Today Player of the Year.

Another pitcher joining the Woodchucks roster is Angel Tiburcio. Angel Tiburcio, a 6’2”, 230 lb. freshman from Wellington, Florida, played at Trinity Christian Academy high school in 2018. At Trinity Christian, Tiburcio was the 2018 First Team All-County, 2018 2A-7 Player of the Year, 2018 2A-7 Hitter of the Year, and received 2018 2A-7 All-District Team honors. He batted .419 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs. So far in 2019, Tiburcio has pitched 2.2 innings for the Panthers, recording one save.

Kaeber Rog, a 6’0”, 205 lb. freshman is originally from Curacao. Rog also played at Trinity Christian Academy high school and batted .485 with eleven doubles, four home runs and 29 RBIs in the 2018 season. Rog joins the Woodchucks as an infielder for the 2019 season.
