Only two games remained on the schedule for Friday after both games in Kalamazoo were canceled due to rain.

Traverse City Pit Spitters 4, Great Lakes Resorters 2

The Traverse City Pit Spitters pitching staff was able to keep the Great Lakes Resorters at bay in a 4-2 victory Friday night at Turtle Creek Stadium.  Great Lakes left a total of eight runners on base – five of whom were in scoring position – as Pit Spitters starter Mark Scannell (Grand Valley State University),  struck out eight Resorters en route to the win. Great Lakes took the early lead in the first inning as Ryan Rifenberg (Lansing CC) and Aaron Hurd (Lyon College) tallied back-to-back RBI to jump out in front 2-0. In the third inning, Jack Shaffer (Indiana University South Bend) and Tommy Troy (Stanford) reached base via the walk before Chris Faust (Grand Valley State University) plated both of them on a two-RBI double – before crossing the plate himself on a single from Cooper Marshall (Western Michigan) – regaining the 3-2 advantage. After squandering a bases-loaded opportunity in the fourth frame, Great Lakes outfielder, Tj Deherrera (Indiana University South Bend), opened the sixth inning with a triple before back-to-back strikeouts and a ground out ended the threat – keeping the score at 3-2 in favor of Traverse City. In the bottom of the sixth, a critical fielding opened the door for a Gaetano Vallone (Davenport) RBI-double before Spitters closer, Evan Gates (North Carolina A&T State), notched his fourth save on the summer by punching out Aaron Hurd (Lyon College) with men on the corners – sending Traverse City on to their 31st victory by the final score of 4-2.

Bismarck Bull Moose 5, Mandan Flickertails 4

In a back and forth affair the Bull Moose hung on for a 5-4 win on Friday night in Bismarck. The Bull Moose got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Dane Nakatsuka (Irvine Valley College) singled home Enrique Morales (Irvine Valley College) from second base. The Flickertails would answer back in the bottom of the inning when Seth Lucero (Dawson CC) and Tyler Keith (Post University) each scored on a Hunter Cooper (Hope International University) single to center field. The Bull Moose and Flickertails would then trade runs in the third and fifth innings before the Bull Moose tacked on three runs in the top of the sixth inning to go up 5-3. The big blow came from Quentin Evers (University of Mary) as he singled to left field to score Justin Goldstein (Orange Coast College) and Enrique Morales. The Flickertails would get one back in the bottom of the ninth on a Justin Janssen (Illinois Central College) single. But that would be all as Evan Neihouse (Dawson Community College) would close out the game for his first save of the season.
