Tuesday’s Northwoods League slate featured 12 games with high-scoring matchups, including Madison’s Victory 18-10 victory over Eau Claire. The first shut-out of the 2024 season in Bad Lands’s 9-0 win over Duluth.
Kenosha 4, Leprechauns 3
Kenosha secured another victory over the Royal Oak Leprechauns scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to end the game 4-3. Both teams recorded ten hits and seven strikeouts. John St. Clair (University of Wisconsin-Parkside) went 2-for-2 with a triple to lead off the third inning. Dj Ghiorso (Santa Barbara City College) went 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI and scoring twice. Grant Brooks (Butler University) earned the win throwing three innings with three strikeouts, allowing four hits, two walks, and two runs.
Traverse City 9, Battle Creek 5
The Traverse City racked up fifteen hits to take down the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 9-5. Brody Capps (Wallace Community College-Dothan) went 5-for-5 including an RBI single in the first and a double to left field in the seventh. Mike Long (Maryville University) went to 2-for-5 with a two-run single in the fifth. Elijah Henning (Central Michigan University)went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drawing one walk. Aiden Arbogast (Eastern Michigan University) went 1-for-4 including a three-run double in the third. Dylan Krause (University of Dallas) earned the win throwing five innings with three strikeouts and allowing three hits, four walks, and four runs.
Kalamazoo 5, Rockford 4
The Kalamazoo Growlers utilize a productive sixth and seventh inning to defeat the Rockford Rivets 5-4. Joey Winters (Ottawa University Arizona) went 1-for-3 on the day with a two-run single in the sixth. Mike Sprockett (University of Akron) went 1-for-3 drawing a walk and recording an RBI and a run. Raegan Paulina (Wayne State University) went 2-for-4 also recording an RBI. Liam O’Brien (Gonzaga University) earned the win throwing two innings with four strikeouts only allowing one and zero walks or runs.
La Crosse 3, Mankato 1
The La Crosse came back after losing on a walk-off yesterday and defeated the Mankato MoonDogs in a tight 3-1 matchup today. Rj Hamilton (Vanderbilt University) went 2-for-4 with a double to left field in the sixth and later scored that same inning and scored again in the eighth. Luke Anderson (BYU) went 2-for-5 including a double, two stolen bases, and scored once. Casey Burfield (University of Nevada Reno) earned the win throwing seven innings with eight strikeouts allowing six hits, one run, and zero walks.
Madison 18, Eau Claire 10
The Madison Mallards take down the Eau Claire Express 18-10 in today’s hit show. The Mallards had a monster fourth inning scoring seven runs and then scoring nine more in the sixth. Connor Capece (Creighton University) went 1-for-3 on the day coming out big in the seventh inning with a grand slam over right field, ending the day with six RBI. Jake Schaffner (North Dakota State University) went 1-for-3 hitting the other long ball for the Mallards and scoring four times. Blake Guerin (University of Iowa) went 3-for-6 with a bases-clearing double in the fourth. Liam Moreno (St. Cloud State University) went 2-for-5 with a two-run double in the sixth ending the day with three RBI and scoring twice. Hudson Deal (Sauk Valley Community College) went 1-for-4 at the plate today with a three-run home run in the sixth. Jacob Kisting (Bradley University) earned the win throwing five innings with eight strikeouts striking out half the batters he faced allowing only one hit, zero walks, and zero runs.
St. Cloud 11, Bismarck 3
The St. Cloud Rox ran up the score today in its 11-3 victory over the Bismarck Larks. Sawyer Smith (St. Cloud State University) went 1-for-5 with a two-run single in the eighth recording three RBI, one stolen base, and one one run on the day. Jackson Hauge (University of Kansas) went 1-for-4 with a solo shot in the first inning. Kade Lewis (Butler University) went 2-for-5 including a two-run double in the seventh. Mathis Meaurant (Cochise College) went 2-for-3 with a double in the first and a two-run home run in the fifth. Kaden Pfeffer (St. Cloud State University) earned the win throwing six innings with four strikeouts allowing seven hits, three runs, and zero walks.
Willmar 11, Waterloo 5
The Willmar Stingers came out hot scoring five in the seventh inning to help secure their 11-5 win over the Waterloo Bucks. Three long balls from three different players from the Stingers. Aidan Byrne (Minnesota State University Mankato) went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the third finishing the day with three RBI, two walks, one stolen base, and scoring three times. Sam Siegel (Augustana University) went 2-for-4 with a solo shot to start the fourth inning and a two-run double in the seventh. Colton Griffin (Stephen. F. Austin State University) went 2-for-5 with a solo shot in the seventh. Aiden Hansen (Minnesota State University Mankato) earned the win throwing four innings with a strikeout allowing one hit, three walks, and zero runs.
Thunder Bay 5, Rochester 3
The Thunder Bay Border Cats defeated the Rochester Honkers 5-3 collecting thirteen hits on the day. Zane Skansi (Creighton University (NE)) went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the third and an RBI double in the sixth. Lucas Terilli (Eastern New Mexico University) went 2-for-4 with a double to start the game and an RBI single in the fourth. Mattie Thomas (University of San Francisco) went 2-for-5 with a two-run bomb in the fifth. Andrew Hardin (Southwestern University (TX)) earned the win throwing five innings with four strikeouts allowing six hits, three runs, and two walks.
Wausau 7, Green Bay 5
The Wausau Woodchucks defeat the Green Bay Rockers 7-5 on the road racking up thirteen hits. Max Galvin (Oklahoma State University) went 2-for-4 with a two-run shot over right field in the sixth, drawing one walk and scoring three times. Nathan King (Kankakee Community College)went 3-for-4 including an RBI double in the fifth. Nick Harms (Case Western Reserve University) went 1-for-3 with a solo shot in the seventh. Caleb White (Georgia Southern University) earned the win throwing three innings with five strikeouts allowing two hits, one run, and one walk.
Fond du Lac 7, Wisconsin Rapids 4
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders responded to yesterday’s loss today defeating the Wisconsin Rapids 7-4. Parker Knoll (Lawrence University) went 2-for-4 including a solo shot in the seventh recording two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored. Quinten Perilli (Elizabethtown College) went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in the sixth. Kelsen Johnson (Polk State College) went 1-for-3 drawing three walks, recording one RBI, one stolen base, and scoring once. Zach Silfies (Elizabethtown College) earned the win throwing three innings with three strikeouts allowing two walks, zero hits, and zero runs.
Badlands 9, Duluth 0
The Badlands Big Sticks shut down the Duluth Huskies in their 9-0 victory today. Kaden Carpenter (University of Utah) went 1-for-5 with a two-run double in the seventh recording three RBI on the day. The Lakeshore Chinooks take down the Kokomo Jackrabbits 15-10 in today’s high-scoring matchup.
