Thursday’s Northwoods League slate featured 14 games, with 10 home victories. The Kenosha Kingfish and Thunder Bay Border Cats both won their home opener. The Traverse City Pit Spitters took game 1 of the 131 rivalry series.

Kokomo 7, Royal Oak 3

The Kokomo Jackrabbits take down the Royal Oak Leprechauns 7-3. Brodee Wright (Montana State University Billings) went 3-for-5 at the plate today recording two RBI, a walk, a stolen base, and scoring once. Jack Dupuis (Olivet Nazarene University) went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the fourth tallying two walks, a HBP, and scoring twice. Cam Hollobaugh (Walsh University) went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in the eighth. Frederick Romano (Western Illinois University) earned the win throwing four innings with two strikeouts allowing three hits, one run, and one walk.

Royal Oak 12, Kokomo 4

The Royal Oak Leprechauns came back in their second game of the day and pulled off the win over the Kokomo Jackrabbits 12-4. Nate Ball (Eastern Michigan University) was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 and recording three RBI, drawing two walks, and scoring once. Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Wayne State University) went 1-for-4 collecting an RBI in the fourth and a two-run single in the sixth. James Oman (University of North Florida) went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple tallying three RBI. Gabe Jones ( Ball State University) earned the win throwing three innings with two strikeouts allowing two hits, zero walks, and zero hits.

Traverse City 5, Kalamazoo 1

The Traverse City Pit Spitters take game one of the rivalry beating the Kalamazoo Growlers 5-1. Brandon Chang (Brown University) went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple in the second. Jt Sokolove (Illinois State University) went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the second. Corey Berry (Wallace Community College-Dothan) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the seventh. Collin Bradley (Grand Valley State University) earned the win throwing two innings with one strikeout allowing one walk, no hits, and no runs.

Rockford 10, Battle Creek 0

The Rockford Rivets shut out the Battle Creek Battle Jacks today 10-0. Cade Zalewski (Eastern Illinois University) went 1-for-4 today with a bases-clearing double in the eighth. Nick Demarco (Notre Dame)went 2-for-4 at the plate today with a double and a solo shot in the fourth. Brayden Bakes (Indiana University) went 1-for-2 with an RBI double in the third. Zach Longshore (University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)) earned the win throwing six innings with seven strikeouts allowing four hits, two walks, and zero runs.

Fond du Lac 13, Green Bay 3

The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders ran up their score in today’s match defeating the Green Bay Rockers 13-3. Zach Taylor (University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh) went 2-for-3 with a two-run single in the third and a solo shot in the fifth. Kelsen Johnson (Polk State College) went 1-for-4 recording a double and two RBI. Parker Knoll (Lawrence University) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double drawing three walks, a stolen base, and scoring twice. Jake Bold (Princeton University) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Noah Tschopp (Embry Riddle Aeronautical University) earned the win throwing 3.2 innings with three strikeouts allowing three walks, one hit, and zero earned runs.

Wausau 4, Wisconsin Rapids 3

The Wausau Woodchucks pull through and take down the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 4-3. Jacob Haley (University of South Alabama) went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in the third. Val Cerna (Central Methodist University) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the third. Tyler Macclanahan (Alabama State University) went 1-for-2 drawing two walks and scoring once. Clayton Burke (Central Methodist University) earned the win throwing 3.1 innings with two strikeouts allowing four hits, two walks, and one earned run.

La Crosse 5, Rochester 4

The La Crosse Loggers defeat the Rochester Honkers 5-4 in today’s tight matchup. Cooper Brass (University of New Mexico) went 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run single in the fourth. Zach Wadas (Texas Christian University) went 1-for-2 with a solo shot in the fifth. Augusto Mungarrieta Lorenzo (Rochester Community and Technical College) went 1-for-3 collecting two RBI in the fourth and an RBI double in the eighth. Ethan Rowland (De Anza College) earned the win throwing three innings with one strikeout allowing three walks, one hit, and zero runs.

Willmar 3, Mankato 0

The Willmar Stingers shut out the Mankato MoonDogs 3-0 receiving a big game from starting pitcher, J.D. Hennen. Sam Siegel (Augustana University) went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the second. Colton Griffin (Stephen. F. Austin State University)  went 2-for-3 tallying two stolen bases, scoring twice, and drawing one walk. Aiden Byrne (Minnesota State University Mankato) went 2-for-4 including a double. J.D. Hennen (Augustana University)earned the win throwing five innings facing seventeen batters striking out nine allowing only one hit, two walks, and zero runs.

Madison 7, Lakeshore 5

The Madison Mallards used a seventh and eighth-inning push to secure the win over the Lakeshore Chinooks 7-5. Blake Guerin (University of Iowa) went 2-for-5 at the plate today with a two-run home run in the first, also recording a double and scoring twice. Jake Schaffner (North Dakota State University) was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 drawing two walks, tallying two stolen bases, and scoring once. Josh Outlaw (Parkland College) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a stolen base, and scoring once. Luke Agnew (Wichita State University) earned the win throwing 2.1 innings with four strikeouts allowing one hit, no walks, and no runs.

Kenosha 8, Waterloo 4

The Kenosha Kingfish won their home opener over the Waterloo Bucks 8-4. Robert Newland (Kalamazoo College) went 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-run home run in the fourth. Noah Jouras (Davidson College) went 2-for-5 with a two-run triple in the first. Justin Hausser (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) went 3-for-4 including a double tallying one RBI, one walk, and scoring once. Zachary Mazoch (Baylor University) went 2-for-4 recording a double, an RBI, and scoring once. Hudson Calhoun (University of Mississippi) earned the win throwing five innings with three strikeouts allowing two hits, one walk, and zero runs.

Bismarck 4, Minot 3

The Bismarck Larks walk it off in the tenth inning to defeat the Minot Hot Tots 4-3. Will Millard (Hillsdale College) went 1-for-5 coming in clutch with the walk-off single to call the game. Alex Alva (University of Jamestown) went 3-for-5, scoring twice. Elias Fidder (University of Utah) went 2-for-5 with a bases-clearing triple in the eighth. Haldon Craig (Doane College) earned the win shutting out the Hot Tots to close out the game throwing 2.1 innings facing nine batters striking out seven allowing two walks, no hits, and no runs. 

Duluth 10, St. Cloud 6

The Duluth Huskies came out early scoring four runs in the second to help take down the St. Cloud Rox 10-6. Jose Vargas Iii (Wharton County Junior College) went 1-for-2 with a bases-clearing double in the fourth. Charlie Sutherland (University of Minnesota) went 2-for-5 with a two-run single in the sixth. Joe Vos (University of St. Thomas) went 2-for-3 tallying one RBI, one walk, one HBP, one stolen base, and scoring once. Josh Katz (University of Georgia) went 2-for-2 recording one RBI. Jakob Shulz (Vanderbilt University) earned the win throwing four innings with four strikeouts allowing three hits, one earned run, and zero walks.

Thunder Bay 3, Minnesota Mud Puppies 2

The Thunder Bay Border Cats powered through and defeated the Minnesota Mud Puppies 3-2 in their season opener. Logan Mclntyre (University of Missouri-St. Louis) went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the first and an RBI single in the fifth. Greg LaChance (University of Illinois) went 1-for-4 with a double and recorded one RBI. Lucas Terilli (Eastern New Mexico University)  went 1-for-3 drawing two walks and scoring twice. Carter Wall (University of Utah) earned the win throwing 1.1 innings with two strikeouts allowing one walk, no hits, and no runs.

Eau Claire 16, Badlands 15

The Eau Claire Express walked it off in a thrilling eleven-inning matchup defeating the Badlands Big Sticks 16-15. Jake Busson (Iowa Central Community College) collected four RBI going 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in the first inning. George Bilecki (Lewis University) went 2-for-5 at the plate with a bases-clearing double in the eighth. Ragan Pinnow (Augustana University) went 2-for-4 recording three RBI including the tieing run in the eleventh. Dane Jones (LeTourneau University) was an RBI machine going 2-for-4 including a two-run home run in the second, a two-run double in the fifth, and collected his fifth RBI in the sixth. Evan Appelwick (Miami University Ohio) went 2-for-6 with an RBI single in the ninth and a two-run home run in the eleventh. Luke Wiltrakis (University of Georgia) earned the win throwing 5.1 innings with nine strikeouts allowing five hits, three walks, and four earned runs.
