It was a groundbreaking day for women’s softball as the Northwoods League debuts NWLsoftball. La Crosse Steam hosted the first game of the season where they took down the Madison Night Mares 2-1. There will only be 64 players who can say they were first.

The La Crosse Steam recorded the first win of the NWL softball season beating the Madison Night Mares 2-1. Ashlee Chantos (Winona State University) went 1-for-2 scoring once with an RBI triple. Grace Frechette (St. Cloud State University) went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and one RBI. Ashley Wolfe (Oregon State University) went 1-for-2 scoring once with a double and one stolen base. Addie Blomberg (South Dakota State University) went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base. Mackenzie Willis (California State University Monterey Bay) earned the win throwing 6.2 innings with six strikeouts allowing five hits, three walks, and one run.
