Thursday’s Northwoods League slate featured 9 games. The Duluth Huskies struck early and kept the pressure on, defeating the Rochester Honkers 9-4 and securing the sweep. The Wausau Woodchucks broke a scoreless tie in the 10th inning with a two-run rally and held on to edge the Madison Mallards 2-1 in extra innings.

Battle Creek 5, Kalamazoo 3

The Battle Creek Battle Jacks jumped ahead early with a four-run second inning and held off a late push from the Kalamazoo Growlers to secure a 5-3 win. Ryan Kroepel (Utah Tech University) went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Joshua Algarin (Walsh University) scored twice, collecting one RBI and one stolen base. Ryan Skjonsby (Washington State University) went 1-for-3 with one RBI. KJ White (Southern Universtiy) went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base. Brodey Acres (Walsh University) went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Aaron Morris (Utah Tech University) earned the win, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, allowing three walks and two hits.

Wausau 2, Madison 1

The Wausau Woodchucks broke a scoreless tie in the 10th inning with a two-run rally and held on to edge the Madison Mallards 2-1 in extra innings. Zach Knowlton (Central Michigan University) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and one stolen base. Christian Smith-Johnson (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) went 1-for-5 with one RBI. Jordy Lopez (University of Californa Berkeley) went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Landon Sexton (USC Upstate) earned the win throwing three perfect innings striking out four of ten batters faced.

Wisconsin Rapids 3, Royal Oak 1

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters rode a three-run second inning to take down the Royal Oak Leprechauns 3-1. Gunnar Myro (University of Nevada Las Vegas) came in clutch going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and one stolen base. Jack Dauer (Yale University) went 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once, and stealing one base. Anthony Mateo (Alabama A&M University) earned the win throwing 4.2 innings with three strikeouts allowing two hits, one walk, and one hit.

Green Bay 8, Lakeshore 5

The Green Bay Rockers held off a mid-game rally from the Lakeshore Chinooks, using late insurance runs to secure an 8-5 victory. Cooper Smith (University of Oklahoma) went 1-for-5 with three RBIs. Eric Jeon (Columbia University) went 2-for-4 scoring once with two RBIs. Parker Martin (University Of Southern Indiana) went 2-for-4 including a double, scoring twice and stealing two bases. David Hogg (Louisiana State University) went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and one scored run. Brody Rasmussen (University of Maine) went 3-for-4 scoring once with one RBI. Jack Fortner (Middle Tennessee State University) earned the win throwing one scoreless no-hit inning with one strikeout and allowing one walk. Drew Aguiar (Cal State Monterey Bay) got the save throwing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts allowing one hit and one walk.

Badlands 3, Bismarck 0

The Badlands Big Sticks shut out the Bismarck Larks 3-0. Ryan Muizelaar (University of Jamestown) went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run. Matthew Dieguez (Fordham University) went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Quade Peters (Eastern Illinois University) went 3-for-4 scoring once with one stolen base. Justan Autry (Alvin CC) earned the win throwing six scoreless innings with three strikeouts allowing five hits and four walks. Braylen Timmins (Texas State University) got the save throwing one scoreless no-hit inning striking out three of four batters faced.

Mankato 9, Minot 1

The Mankato MoonDogs pulled away in the middle innings, scoring three runs in both the fifth and sixth to defeat the Minot Hot Tots 9-1. Connor Cuff (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) had a day at the plate going 3-for-4 scoring twice with one RBI and one stolen base. Anthony Avalos (University of Houston) went 1-for-4 scoring once with two RBIs and one stolen base. Josey Williamson (University of Alabama) went 2-for-5 scoring once with one RBI and one stolen base. Will Smoot (East Tennessee State University) went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Joe Skapinetz (Lafayette College) earned the win throwing six innings with six strikeouts allowing three hits, three walks, and zero earned runs. 

Duluth 9, Rochester 4

The Duluth Huskies struck early and kept the pressure on, defeating the Rochester Honkers 9-4. Zan Von Schlegell (University of St. Thomas (MN)) went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, tallying two RBIs and one run scored. Ethan Surowiec (University of Mississippi) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, one RBI, and one stolen base. Michael Smith (Prairie View A&M University) went 1-for-3 with a double, recording one RBI, two scored tuns, and one stolen base. Paul Gutierrez Contreras (Cal State Fullerton) went 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and stealing one base. Brandon Contreras (Ventura CC) went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Tanner Poertsch (University of Nebraska Omaha) earned the win throwing eight innings allowing five hits, one earned run, and one walk.

Traverse City 11, Fond du Lac 6

The Traverse City Pit Spitters overcame a slow start to outslug the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 11-6. Isaac Sturgess (Michigan State University) was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 scoring once with three RBIs. Grady Mee (Western Michigan University) went 2-for-3 with a double, scoring three times, driving in two runs, and stealing one base. Brandon Sanchez (University of Northern Colorado) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Alfredo Velazquez (Wayne State University) went 3-for-3 scoring three times. Jarron Cotton (University of Nebraska) went 1-for-4 with a double, driving in three runs, and stealing one base. Nic Mirabella (Maryville College (TN)) earned the win throwing two innings with three strikeouts allowing one hit and zero earned runs.

Kalamazoo 8, Battle Creek 4

The Kalamazoo Growlers rallied late, scoring six runs in the sixth inning to overcome an early deficit and defeat the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 8-4. Jayce Lee (University of Notre Dame) went 2-for-4 with a bases-clearing triple and a double, recording three RBIs. JD Crisp (Xavier University) went 2-for-2 scoring once with three stolen bases. Noah Coy (University of Notre Dame) went 2-for-4 scoring once with one RBI and two stolen bases. Brodey Acres (Walsh University) went 1-for-3 scoring twice with two stolen bases. Caleb Estrada (Grand Valley State University) went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run. Bryce Brassfield (St. Cloud State University) earned the win throwing 1.1 perfect innings striking out two of four batters faced.
