Northwoods League Playoffs Preview
adminThere will be a first-time Northwoods League Champion in 2011 as the playoffs to determine that champion begin tonight. Four franchises that have a combined record of 2-8 in four postseason appearances will all be looking to advance to and win their first Summer Collegiate World Series. The Mankato MoonDogs and Alexandria Beetles will square off in the North Division playoffs while the Green Bay Bullfrogs and Battle Creek Bombers will meet up in the South.

NWL Announces Postseason All-Star Team
adminThe Northwoods League announced its 2011 Postseason All-Star Team and award winners on Saturday afternoon. In addition to the 30 players that were selected to the honorary team, Mankato outfielder Shaun Cooper was named the Northwoods League Most Valuable Player while fellow MoonDog right-handed pitcher Blake Schwartz was named Pitcher of the Year as voted by the League’s coaches and members of the media. Green Bay led all teams with four players selected while Brainerd Lakes Area was second with three. Playoff participants Battle Creek and Mankato split the coaching awards.
