Opening night around the Northwoods League brought some close games, two shutouts, a rainout, and a fresh start for the brand new Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers.

Three Northwoods League cities hosted the Swedish National Team this week in a series of exhibition games. The Swedes made stops in Brainerd, La Crosse and Madison on Monday through Wednesday. Regular season play for the NWL teams opens up Thursday night.

The 16th season of Northwoods League Baseball is set to begin Thursday, May 28th in seven cities across the Upper Midwest. (Rochester, MN)-The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of a pair of players from New Mexico State University. Justin Cooper (right), a 6'1", 170-pound freshman pitcher and Chris Auten (left), a 6'4", 225-pound redshirt junior infielder will join the Honkers this summer.
