The Duluth Huskies (13-16) lost to the Thunder Bay Border Cats (4-24) Wednesday afternoon.

It was a quick turn-around as the Huskies took the field at noon to battle the Thunder Bay Border Cats. After playing an extra-inning game Tuesday night in Mankato, the Huskies did not get back to Duluth until the early hours of Wednesday morning and the Cats halted any momentum that may have been left from that Tuesday night game with an 11-6 victory over the Huskies.

Although Thunder Bay came into the game with a 3-24 record they had won 2 of their last 3 and were looking to keep that momentum going. Keeping that momentum is exactly what the Border Cats did. The Cats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning and did not look back.

The Huskies did put one run on the board in the bottom of the 3rd when Brendan McClary scored on a Dillon Paulson single. The Huskies then seemed to come alive and scored 4 in the bottom of the 4th. Those runs were scored by Reid Long, Chase Barbary, Brendan McClary, and Logan Browning. The Huskies bats then fell silent and they ended up only scoring 1 more run in the bottom of the 6th inning when Daniel Amaral scored on a Logan Browning double.

Henry DeCaster made his first appearance as a Huskie and picked up the loss; he went 4.0 innings allowing 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Alex Ferguson then entered the game and went .1 innings allowing 2 runs and walked 1. Drew Mullinax was the third pitcher for the Huskies and went 3.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and walked 1. Trevino Rodriguez pitched the last inning of the Huskies and allowed 0 runs on 2 hits.

The stars of the game for the Huskies were Brendan McClary who went 3-4 with 2 runs scored; Liam Sabino who went 2-3 with a double, 2 walks, and 1RBI; and Daniel Amaral who went 2-4 with 2 doubles, 1 walk, 1 run scored, and 2RBIs.

The Huskies will take the field for the second game of the double header tonight. The second game starts at 6:35 and the Huskies will be celebrating Mascot Olympics. Local mascots will be in attendance and participate in the in-between inning games. This event is being sponsored by Grandma’s Marathon.
