2019 season is coming faster than fans think!
The Duluth Huskies Baseball Club is excited to announce the signing of four more Huskies for the 2019 season. They include three right-hand pitchers and one second baseman. Jake McDonald RHP, Joey Machado RHP, Owen Meaney RHP, and Lance Ford 2B.
Jake McDonald, born in Texarkana, Texas, is a 6’3” redshirt sophomore at Texas Tech where he is majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in sports management, he has been redshirted due to injury. He had a successful freshman season with making 14 mound appearances and started three of the season games. His overall freshmen stats were 5.31 ERA in 20.1 innings while striking out 17 batters.
McDonald’s success didn’t start in college, it actually came from four years of letter winning at Maud High School. He was apart of Maud high school going to four-straight postseason appearances, that also included regional finals in 2016. McDonald ended his senior season with 0.67 ERA and 165 strikeouts. He left high school in great spirits as he had four no-hitter performances and earned All-State First Team Honors.
Joey Machado is a 6’4” RHP redshirt Sophomore at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Machado is talented on and off the field with receiving Summit League Academic Honor Roll two years in a row. His freshman year was great as he appeared in 14 games with pitching a team high of 82.2 innings and a total of 50 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.35.
Owen Meaney is a 6’5” RHP freshman from the Texas University of Austin. He is fresh into college with only having played a few innings in a few games to not rack up much in stats. Meaney did have a very
successful high school career at St. Thomas High School where he earned TAPPS first team All-State honors three years in a row. He was also named the Texas Prep Baseball Houston Private School MVP his junior year. Meaney had yet another accomplishment of earning Underclass All-American second- team honors with high honorable mention honors as a sophomore.
Lance Ford is a 5’9” second baseman and shortstop freshmen at the Texas University of Austin. His high school career shows how he made it to Texas with four-year letter winning and named Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason All-American Senior. The hard work came through in multiple ways his senior year with being named All-District and All-State.
The Huskies open up their home season on Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 against the Eau Claire Express. In just a few short months baseball will be back at the Wade.
