Kingfish fall to Kalamazoo in Series Opener 

Kalamazoo, Mi. – The Kenosha Kingfish fell to the Kalamazoo Growlers 5-4 on Friday night. 

Kalamazoo put up three runs in the first inning off of a Devin Obee double that scored Anthony Stephan and Sam Kirkpatrick. The next batter, Alex Calarco walked to score Cole Russo to make it 3-0.

They added on one in the second on a wild pitch. Kenosha replied in the fifth on a James McCoy RBI single that scored Drake Varnado to make it 4-1. Kenosha built off of that in the sixth on a Parker Stinson solo home run to make it 4-2.

 

In the seventh, Drake Westcott singled to score Varnado to make it 4-3. Varnado hit an RBI single in the eighth to score Anthony Mangano and tie the game.

 

Kalamazoo responded in the bottom of the eighth off of a Kirkpatrick RBI single that scored Stephan to put the Growlers up for good.

Gavin Brasosky was credited with the win after going one inning and allowing one run.

Kenosha pitcher Luke Ellis was charged with the loss after throwing 5.1 innings, conceding one run. He relieved Lin Chen-Wei who threw 2.1 innings conceding four runs. Blake Malatestinic threw 0.1 innings in the eighth. 

Kenosha (15-18) will take on the Kalamazoo Growlers (21-12) in the series finale on July 2nd. The first pitch will be at 5:35 p.m. CST.
