THE DUCK POND – With a record crowd on hand at Warner Park Saturday night, the Madison Mallards made sure everybody got their money’s worth.

The Mallards (27-16) gave up two runs to Rochester in the top of the seventh inning but bounced back to score three in the bottom of the inning and posted a 5-4 Northwoods League victory over the Honkers (27-16).

The attendance of 6,584 set a league, franchise, and (national) summer collegiate league record, and is also a record crowd for a game played in the city of Madison. It broke the record of 6,018 set Friday night.

Doug Beck’s two-run double was the big hit in the seventh. He finished the night with three RBIs.

The Mallards now hit the road for a two-game series in Wausau before returning home on Wednesday night.
