Madison Mallards Head Coach Darrell Handelsman has resigned from his position effective immediately. He plans to pursue other opportunities in baseball and coaching. Handelsman, who is the winningest coach in Northwoods League history, recently completed his second season with the Mallards. He compiled an 85-50 record in two seasons, including two playoff appearances and the 2004 Northwoods League Championship.

?I would like to thank the Mallards and owner Steve Schmitt for the experience and opportunities they have given me during my time in Madison,? Handelsman said.

?We are very appreciative of what Darrell did with the team,? Mallards General Manager Vern Stenman said. ?We would like to thank him for two great years and we wish him the best of luck in the future.?

The Mallards have compiled a short list of candidates and will fill the head coaching vacancy in the near future.
