For the second straight night, the Rochester Honkers came into the Duck Pond and escaped with a one-run victory, a 2-1 win over the Mallards. With the victory Rochester is all alone in second-place in the Northwoods League South Division second-half standings.

Rochester jumped on the board in the top half of the first inning as Rochester collected two of their four hits in their first at-bat. First baseman Efren Navarro collected one of those two hits, singling home Luke Reiland .

But Madison responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first as Mike Rohde continued his torrid hitting streak, bringing home Will Vogl with an RBI single. Vogl was hitting in the lead-off spot and managed to get on base twice, going one-for-three with the Mallards only run.

Rochester took the lead for good in the seventh when Dan Lyons crossed home plate following a past ball. Nate Melek (1-2) picked up the loss, giving up one run in one and a third innings.

Ben Jukich (5-1) was phenomenal for the Honkers, throwing eight innings and giving up one unearned run. He struck out six while scattering five hits and improved to 5-1 on the season. Brett Jensen picked up his fifth save after throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Mallards hit the road for two games at Rochester Sunday and Monday before coming home for a four game series that starts Wednesday, July 27. For tickets to the upcoming home games, visit www.mallardsbaseball.com or call the Mallards ticket office at (608) 246-4277.
