Madison, WI – The Madison Mallards (41-28) defeated the Green Bay Rockers (39-30) on Saturday night in the regular-season finale, completing a two-game series sweep.
The Mallards opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jack Bello (University of Minnesota) delivered a two-run single to give Madison a 2-0 lead.
Green Bay answered in the fourth. Daniel Harden (University of Houston) drove in a run with a base hit to cut the deficit to 2-1 before Brayden Pleau (Grand Valley State) followed with a two-run home run down the left-field line, giving the Rockers a 3-2 lead.
The Rockers carried the lead into the sixth, but the Mallards responded with back-to-back power. Aiden Arnett (Virginia Tech) tied the game with a solo home run, his seventh of the season. Two batters later, Davis Hamilton (University of Minnesota) blasted a solo home run to put Madison back in front, 4-3.
The Mallards held onto the lead the rest of the way. Logan Sarna (Harper College) tossed four scoreless innings, while Mason Buss (University of Illinois-Chicago) worked a scoreless ninth to secure the 4-3 victory and complete the series sweep.
Sarna earned his first win of the season, while Skyler Sievert (UW-Whitewater) took the loss for Green Bay. Buss recorded his second consecutive save.
With the regular season complete, the Mallards now turn their attention to the Northwoods League playoffs. Madison will host the Lakeshore Chinooks in Game 1 of the Great Lakes West Subdivisional Series on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
