Madison, WI — August 10, 2013. The 2013 Northwoods League South Division First-Half Champion Madison Mallards (19-16, 40-28) are set to host a playoff game at the ‘Duck Pond’ Tuesday night at 7:05 pm against either the Lakeshore Chinooks or the La Crosse Loggers.
If the Mallards sweep the Chinooks and the Loggers sweep the Wisconsin Woodchucks this weekend, the Mallards would play the Loggers in the divisional round of the playoffs. If Lakeshore wins one of the next two games against the Mallards they will clinch the Northwoods League South Division Second-Half Championship and face Madison in the playoffs.
The divisional round of the playoffs will follow a 1-1-1 format with the team with the better overall record getting home-field advantage. Game No. 1 of the three-game series will either be at La Crosse or at Lakeshore on Monday and Game No. 3 (if necessary) will be in either La Crosse or Lakeshore on Wednesday. The Mallards will host Game No. 2.
The Northwoods League Summer Collegiate World Series will follow a 1-2 format and will begin on Thursday. The Waterloo Bucks (51-17) won the First and Second-Half Championship of the North division. Waterloo will receive home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and will play either Duluth or Willmar in the North divisional round. If Waterloo does not advance to the Championship round, home field advantage is yet to be determined.
